The ultimate source for the latest facts and figures about the minor leagues, "STATS Minor League Handbook 2000" includes complete statistics for the past year's hitters and pitchers plus an analysis... This description may be from another edition of this product.
It's almost impossible to find all the stats on all the minor leaguers to find the up-and-coming stars. This book solves that problem. Career stats of all AA and AAA players, and individual listings of all A players. A great way to keep track of your teams' minor leaguers progress.
Excellent Reference, but it should be more thorough

I really like these books and have gotten them (along with the Major League red books) for the past five years. I refer to the stats quite often in my work as a baseball writer. My main concerns with the book (and why it doesn't get five stars) are the things excluded from the book. Any player who appeared in the major leagues does not appear in this book, even if they had 500 minor league at bats and 1 major league at bat. I would like to see them change this and include anyone with rookie status. The cynic in me thinks they want you to buy both books rather than one or the other. They also have ceased including minor league park effects, which would I know they have, but they choose not to print. All in all it is a very good reference, but I would like to see STATS make more of an effort to improve upon their current offerings.
A must for the baseball fanatic

Do you live eat and breathe baseball? Does the end of the season depress you and the beginning of the season elate you? If so, this is one of the books that you must have. Why? Because this book is the compendium of in depth knowledge about players not in the Show and who may never ever be in the Show. Yet, if you love the Game, you will pore over every page as if it is a treasure map to Solomon's Lost Mines. You will wonder in fascination if you could be paid to play baseball and strike out 184 times in less than 500 at bats. I love this book and I wear off the cover of each edition before half of the season passes. Seriously, if you ever wonder who that "player to be named later" actually was, this book will tell you. This book is a bargain. But fair warning -- it is addictive and there is no going back.
An absolute necessity to researching the minor leagues

I gave Bill James' '98 Minor League Handbook a 10 because I couldn't survive without it. It includes every relevant stat, plus extras, for EVERY player from AAA through to Rookie ball. This book also contains comparisons of different minor leagues (eg. hitters league vs. pitchers league) and Bill James' own projected major league stats for several prospects. I play in a fantasy league that uses minor leaguers at all four levels, and I would be lost without this easy reference guide!
