Love Phila

Both my husband and I have been incredible Phila Fans forever. Can't tell you how great it was to read Bill Campbell's information.

easy read, you'll like this one

Sam's writing style makes this a great read for sports fans and non-sports fans alike. I had a vague recollection of Bill Campbell from my childhood in the Philly suburbs, but this read brought back great memories that were dormant. The writer lets his subject be the star in this book, a highly recommended read that'll keep the pages turning!

"The Dean" of Philadelphia Sports Broadcasting

For those of us who have spent most of their lives in the Philadelphia area, the sound of Bill Campbell's voice on radio and TV is one that is usually instantly recognizable, even if the name associated with the voice might be misplaced for a moment. My own memory of Campbell's mild and trusting voice goes back to very young preschool days and today its tone still triggers a pleasing resonance of comfort and security. Sam Carchidi has done a remarkable job of bringing alive for us the life and experiences of that voice and shows us that Bill is really the nice, respectful guy that his voice always said he was. Campbell also has covered the Philadelphia sports scene for 60 plus years as few others have and Sam's book is rich in Campbell's delightful stories and impressions of those athletes and others, that have made the Philadelphia area such a great sports venue. From witnessing the incomparable Glenn Davis as he teamed up with Doc Blanchard in the Army-Penn and Army-Navy football games in the mid-forties to all of the many other great athletes and teams of the intervening decades up until the current day, Bill Campbell has an outstanding breath of experience and knowledge of Philadelphia sports. He is "The Dean" indeed! An excellent read for all, especially for those of us who have followed Philly sports' ups and downs over the last few generations and a pleasure to finally put a unique life story to one of the great broadcasting voices.

A great book about a Philadelphia legend!

I was fortunate to read an advance copy of this book and it did not disappoint! Sam Carchidi did a great job of telling the story of a true Philadelphia legend. This book kept my interest from beginning to end. It tells the story of not only one of the greatest sports voices of our time but really sheds some light on what a nice/genuine person Bill Campbell has been over his several decades in the spotlight. This will be a great Fathers' Day gift for my dad who spent his life listening to Bill Campbell's great calls.
