The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes - Big Game Shooting - Vol II

By Clive Phillipps-Wolley and Clive Phillipps-Wolley Sir

Book Overview

"The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes" was a series of books that comprehensively covered all the main sports, providing information on their history, explanations of their rules, tips and and hints for playing them, and much more. Originally published in twenty-eight volumes from 1885-1896, the series now covers over thirty-two different sports and pastimes ranging from fencing to yachting. This volume contains a huge collection of articles and essays on the subject of hunting large animals. With a vast amount of information on hunting everything from the ostrich to the hippopotamus, this timeless book is highly recommended for those with a serious interest in big game hunting, and it would make for a fantastic addition to collections of vintage sporting literature. Contents include: "On Big Game Shooting Generally", "South Africa Fifty Years Ago", "Second Expedition to South Africa", "Later Visits to South Africa", "With Livingstone in South Africa", "East Africa--Battery, Dress, Camp Gear, and Stores", "Game Districts and Routes", "The Caravan, Headman, Gun-bearers, etc.", et cetera. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction. First published in 1894.
