Biblical Foundations for Intentional Christian Community

By Daniel Payne

Biblical Foundations for Intentional Christian Community explores the theological and practical dimensions of intentional Christian community living, firmly rooted in Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently portrays community as central to God's design for human flourishing-a vision that stands in stark contrast to modern individualism.

The book begins by establishing the theological foundation: humans created for relationship with God and one another, modeled after the Trinitarian community. It then traces community through biblical history: Israel's covenant community with its social laws protecting the vulnerable, the prophets' critique of individualism, Jesus' formation of an alternative kingdom community, and the early church's radical shared life.

Moving from theological foundations to practical application, the book addresses governance models, economic sharing, spiritual formation, hospitality, family life, and conflict resolution-all through a biblical lens. Each chapter combines scholarly examination of Scripture with actionable guidance for creating and sustaining vibrant Christian communities today.

Whether you're currently living in intentional community, considering this countercultural path, or simply seeking to deepen relationships within your existing church, this book offers biblical wisdom for becoming "outposts of the coming Kingdom"-places where God's presence is manifest through authentic shared life.
