This is the Gateway Study Bible to Understanding Volume 1 - Gospel of Matthew The Bible stands as a cornerstone of moral and ethical guidance for humanity, yet its parables, while rich in wisdom, often present complexities that can obscure understanding and impede their incorporation into everyday practice. My objective is to bridge this gap with clarity and precision, providing individuals with a compelling and actionable guide for living virtuously. To achieve this, I will examine the Bible through two essential lenses: first, by meticulously uncovering the original meaning of each verse within its historical and cultural context, and second, by illustrating its relevance and application to modern life. Failing to grasp a verse's intended significance obstructs our ability to integrate its profound insights into our everyday experiences, a need our society urgently requires. The Gospel According to Matthew I shall send My Son as a light to all nations, He shall proclaim the law of love, wield power to heal and raise the fallen, call the humble to follow, and send forth His chosen to herald My kingdom. The proud will scorn Him, the mighty will cast Him down, and His blood shall stain the earth as a ransom for the lost. Yet though rejected and slain, He shall rise victorious, for My reign draws near and His triumph shall echo to the ends of the world, repentance is upon you for Jesus' message is in your hands Matthews Purpose The Gospel of Matthew, traditionally attributed to Matthew, one of Jesus' disciples, stands out in the New Testament for its unique purpose and perspective. Originally named Levi, Matthew was likely renamed by Jesus upon becoming a disciple to symbolize his new identity. The name Matthew is of Hebrew origin, derived from the name Mattityahu (מַתִּתְיָהוּ), which means "God's gift" or "hope." Matthew lived from approximately 10 BC to AD 70, with his account of events being a collection he most likely wrote during his time with Jesus and after His death. Predominate view based on research suggests the complete Gospel of Matthew was written between AD 80-100 with a collaborative effort using his actual writings and that of others. Though a minority viewpoint suggests the works were written around AD 50 and the writings were all his. But, by analyzing his gospel's content, structure, and historical context, we can discern the intentions behind Matthew's composition. His Gospel serves a multifaceted purpose: affirming Jesus' identity, instructing believers, and addressing the needs of the early Christian community.
