Bhishma: The Last Kuru!

There was a character "Bhishma" in Hindu epic Mahabharata. The terrible war Kurukshetra happened for the power of Kuru throne. The narrative says Pitamah (grandfather) Bhishma was the last Kuru. Would not it be better if Bhishma married Amba and their son, another Kuru would become the successor? Note: To represent it as a story, author imagination is mixed.
