Zan on returning home, find much of Earth ruled by the Aclasers, an elite group who've used genetic engineering to take charge of their own evolution. The Aclaser consider themselves to be a different species from common Humans. Furthermore they're not the least bit interested in the Republics expedition. But the spaceship's journey is important and as word gets out starts to change the course of history. But all this leads to yet more turbulence in Zan's life.
