The rough terrain of the shade lands makes it seem like it would be impossible to ever leave. However, Lachlan Leander believes there's a way out and is determined to find it. Named for its lack of sun, the shade lands have a small area for vegetation called the sacred gardens. Generations have survived off nothing more than these Sacred Gardens and homes built from Thornwood. The shade people are heavy miners with numerous tunnels under their daunting mountains, yet, none have found a way beyond the mountainous walls that stretch too high for one to climb over. Something terrible is coming to the shade lands and Lachlan's story is only just beginning when it arrives.
