Beyond the Grape Trail brings the story from the perspective of the clans, viewed predominantly through the eyes of Jacky, Strong of the Domain of the Blade Clan. The story opens in 2235, when Jacky is seven summers (seven years) old, and tracks his life and leadership of a continent-wide empire of unified clans, through to when he is forty-five summers when he arrives at the Maitland Community in 2273 to undertake a critical protection mission to the Parkes Community.
