Michael once an athlete, surfer and college student has his life turned upside down at 19 years old but with the power of love and support he is able to get through the challenges that chemo, radiation and other a bone marrow transplant bring Throughout the story, Michael describes what it is like from his perspective to live through such a traumatic experience and he shares his insights and important life lessons he learned. The diagnosis is a shock to Michael and his family because 4 years prior to this Michael and his family lost their father to cancer. Lightning had struck twice. Michael's journey is a story like no other where love and support save his life. After his bone marrow transplant Michael and his family had high hopes of him returning to his normal life but the universe had other plans for him. Michael developed many complications which lead to spending months and months in the hospital on the verge of death. Michael goes through extreme amounts of pain and as a result of his bone marrow transplant Michael develops a chronic disease known as Graft versus host disease. It was not just his physical health that struggled, at many points Michael struggles as well mentally. However Michael and his Mom turned all of this pain and suffering into purpose by helping others and showing people that even in the darkest of times there can still be light.
