I love this book because of the genuine love and compassion that this doctor has for his patients. My experience is that many doctors tend to treat patients as numbers or faceless, not because they are bad people, but because they are overworked. Dr. Bartley in this book recognizes how important it is for a patient to feel heard...to listen, really listen to the concerns and fears of that patient. I believe every medical student should read this book. I find it refreshing and inspirational. Way to go Doc.
Rare and valued look into the doctor/patient world

Dr. Bartley (my gastroenterologist) has provided a unique perspective into managing both patient care as well as their emotional response to dealing with a serious illness. The breadth of reactions by both doctor and patient are explored in a frank and very engaging way. Dr. Bartley makes the book very accessible to the lay person. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is faced with a disease or has a loved one in that situation.
