Kafka's work lends itself to numerous interpretations: theological, Jewish, Marxist, sociological, Freudian. The Author argues that Kafka's work anticipates and contains all of them, concealing within itself a meta-meaning still to be discovered. Moreover, he rejects the pseudo-historicist evolutionism of much literary criticism, according to which each subsequent work would constitute an evolution or progress with respect to the previous one.
