During any season the tracks of so called "Yachties" can be traced all around the Pacific Ocean. "Beyond Catalina" is the story of one sailor who left his comfort zone behind in a quest for excitement and adventure at sea. He set out during the 1970s, prior to the advent of the digital age, thereby being numbered amongst the last generation of sailors to rely on sextant, chronometer and complex tables. "Out there," he and a variety of crew members discovered rich rewards. But for these they had to pay "the price of admission" in terms of gruelling passages, times of sheer terror and even bouts of "cabin fever." The story is documented candidly, and often with a spark of humour. By his own admission the Author if often out of his depth. But then, on a 32-foot yacht nothing could have prepared him for a "freak wave breeding ground" or marauding "greybeards" from the mighty Southern Ocean.
