Extraordinary and Diverse Collection

I've been a fan of Ken Gire's artful and anointed writing for several years. However, upon opening this book, and realizing that it consisted largely, not of Gire's own words, but quotes and writings related to the subject of prayer...I was for a moment indecisive about whether or not to continue. I decided to trust the author and begin. And rather than it feeling like one entry after another in a huge devotional tome, the words began to jump off the page. Gire has collected writings and prayers from every continent, from writers, scholars, scientists, non-Christians and Christians alike, famous historical figures and the Bible itself (to name a few). The fact that these are arranged by themes is almost irrelevant to the sheer power of the words laid out on these pages. I already knew that Gire was a well-read individual himself because, in the very 1st book of his that I read, he introduced me to the genius of Frederick Buechner..now one of my favorite authors. But the sheer scope of the writings he has chosen for this book took my breath away. I felt as I was reading that I was discovering and uncovering some truly anointed stories/words of wisdom that I might never have encountered in my lifetime had it not been for this book. I had immediate favorites as I went through the book, but it became obvious to me that this is a volume that I will pick up again and again throughout my life. An amazing, amazing work and one that obviously is built on the rich and varied studies of this author. Ken Gire's life and love for the truth are displayed here on these pages in a most remarkable way.

THE BEST PRAYER COLLECTION EVER WRITTEN!!

I consider this book one of my favorite books about prayer and the necessity which drives men and women to God. Ken Gire presents a solid, user-friendly reference to some of the greatest quotes ever written or spoken by famous personalities such as C.S. Lewis, Abraham Heschel, and St. Francis of Assisi. This has to be one of the most beautiful books ever written or compiled on the subject of prayer! A classic in every sense of the word-it leaves me speechless each time I read it.

A constant companion for daily devotions!

This book has provided me with inspirational messages, prayers for times when nothing seem appropriate, prayers to share, and prayers to reflect upon.

Exhaustive prayer compilation well worth the money

Gire searches extensively to bring the reader the best tidbits of insight from the brightest Christian authors throughout the centuries. He has done the work that many of us wish we could do, if we only had the time. . .
