Betty Lou

Betty Lou is the true story of a remarkable woman. Betty Lou Cook was a very ordinary person; she never held political office, was not a celebrity, and didn't have a college degree. Yet she, and people like her, formed the backbone of America then and now. Hers would later be called The Greatest Generation; raised in the depths of the Great Depression to fight and win a World War and launch the Baby Boom of the late 1940's. Betty Lou's generation left centuries of farm life to migrate to the city and learn a new way of life. The story, told by Betty Lou, starts during her magical childhood years on the farm. She meets and falls in love with a notorious prankster named Kenny, her first love. Kenny is drafted and sent to Europe. After WW II they leave the farm and settle down in a small Indiana town. In search of opportunity, the couple teams up with two other young families and go west on America's Mother Road, Route 66. It proves to be a very eventful trip. Betty Lou and Kenny, now with two young children, find their new home in San Diego, in the seaside village of Ocean Beach.
