Bettina Patermo

A wide-ranging survey of Bettina Patermo's explosively colorful paintings.

Bettina Patermo (b. 1967) is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Austrian painting. Versatility is her hallmark across painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Her work has evolved from figurative depictions towards increasingly expressive abstraction, shaped by the pandemic and war as well as by social and personal crises. Her recent paintings show bold fields and contrasts of color, spontaneous gestures, and fragmented figures between dream and chaos. Rather than concrete narratives, Patermo creates emotional pictorial spaces that deeply resonate with viewers. This volume traces her development as an artist, showing how each new body of work opens a fresh chapter in her artistic journey.
