For her first book, Glenna Kauppila has shown than she can story-tell very well. I am very interested in the lives of older generations (I'm 32) and how our society has changed over the decades. I enjoyed Mrs. Kauppila's tales about her family's progress through the years. The letters that chronicle the children's time spent separated were touching. I also enjoyed the humorous episodes in the book - some of those things you can look back on and laugh, that may not have been quite so funny at the time.We have a fascination with our short American history and stories such as this outline how our young culture has spawned tales of adversity, self-accomplishment and the development of our society of neighbors. For it's story-telling quality and another perspective of a woman growing up in the depression and learning to live life with purpose, you'll enjoy "Better Laugh than Cry".
