Bethlehem means "the house of bread", although practically desert. Bread is life in the desert, especially for the Essenes, whose vow of poverty, preventing Roman taxation, meant starvation during the famine. Acts 23:8 Sadducees teach of no resurrection (sad-you-see). In contrast, Joseph, the father of Jesus, teaches the Egyptian theology of Eternal life and Hall of Judgement. The Star of Bethlehem signifies this - the immovable compass of the Northern Star pointed out by the pyramids of Egypt and Jerusalem, the graves of the Essenes, and Daniel's fingers which write upon the wall, "you have been weighed and found wanting." My three book covers, therefore, depict three different visions of heaven: the Roman Catholic, the Roman Elysian fields, and the Pyramids. The Jews had only a "record" of a good life (2 Sam 23:8-9) which, in my opinion, is misinterpreted in Revelations as "the Book of Life".
