Perfect for summer!

Like the other reviewers, I got an advanced copy of this novel ~~ and just loved it! This is a sassy and fun reading ~~ where the heroine grows into herself and finds out that one can make lemonade out of lemons!You have Elizabeth, who was raised by MeeMaw after her mother died. She was born in a small community outside of Augusta, Georgia. She is the manager of a small dollar-type store that is being threatened by a big superstore coming to the area. Gathering her resources, Elizabeth convinces her friends and family to fight the superstore. And along the way, Elizabeth finds true love and the deep secret of her past. This is a fun, witty novel about friendship, family, and love. It's a great read ~~ the quotes at the beginning of each chapter is fun and the writing flows like a conversation between friends. So if I were you, I'd grab a glass of iced tea and this book ~~ go sit somewhere outside and enjoy this funny story. It's a perfect read for summer!7-6-04

Delightful!!

This is a delightful, charming first novel. The characters are well developed; the reader feels as though he lives in their town. Reminiscent of Fried Green Tomatoes. The "Hee Haw" reviewer sounds like sour grapes ... or hardened grits. Your heart will open to the Bottom Dollar folks and you'll anxiously await the second in the series!!

Very good first effort

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the author's phrasing. I really felt like I was "in" Cayboo Creek. I really liked Elizabeth - I could really empathize with her. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Small town fun

What a charming book. The characters are very funny especially Atalee. This book reminds me of The Miss Julia series. It was gentle, entertaining fiction with no bad language. I'm recommending it to my book club.

Terrific Southern and Summer Read!

I received Bet Your Bottom Dollar as an ARC a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVED it. In three days, I have read over 200 pages which is a record for me with a new house and a baby on the way! The characters are just terrific and I love the sayings at the beginnings of each chapter, especially the bumper stickers and the church ones. Timothy is a fantastic character and I love how he finally came around to tell Elizabeth how he feels after a little prodding! It does remind me of a bit of Fried Green Tomatoes (the comparison I had read somewhere) but also reminds me of Big Stone Gap books (by Adriana Trigiani)--I love those as well!I even wrote to the author and I am really pleased to know she already has 2 more books like these in the pipeline. She seemed quite appreciative that people were reading her books and I can't wait till the sequel comes out!Lorraine
