I had never met a Protestant before, and these guys were Anglo-Saxon jocks. Somehow I survived through rigorous and impossible Ivy League curricula and ran across a psychology prof, a famous guy in his field, who said, "Mike, your people are from the south of Italy, and you write so eloquently about them. You need to spend at least a year there. I know people who owe me a favor. I can get you there." And then there was Naples.
