The other review of this book is accurate, but being a preschool teacher for over 20 years, I have to say that this is my FAVORITE book for children 3 - 5 years old. It's rich and imaginative vocabulary excite every child's imagination every bit as much as the illustrations. This one is a real gem!

When Beryl's mother comes to visit Penelope's mother, the girls soon discover that Penelope's room, brimming with various shiny new toys, proves to be no match for the excitment and adventure contained in Beryl's plain brown cardboard box. Beryl climbs into the box and lets her imagination go. She convinces Penelope to join her. The reader is drawn in and back to a time where imagination runs free. The illustrations lend support to the adventures the pair encounter. Penelope learns to unleash her imagination and finds a freind along the way. Readers will find delight and a bit of their own childhood in this story of creative imagination.
