Here is a comprehensive, authoritative, and up-to-date textbook of human physiology that emphasizes fundamental mechanisms and concepts. One of the leading texts in its field, PHYSIOLOGY is known for its direct, scientific approach to the subject matter. Its well-respected authors use an organ system-based approach to clearly describe all of the mechanisms that control and regulate bodily function. This 5th Edition features a greatly increased emphasis on molecular biology and genetic diseases. And, the Nervous System section has been completely reorganized in accordance with the latest trends in medical education.Key experimental observations and examples provide a rich understanding of the body's dynamic processes. Clinical information is emphasized throughout, via shaded boxes that highlight clinical correlations. Self-study problems, as well as a mini-exam available through the evolve site, help students master the material.
I highly recommend this book to any medical student. It's easy to read and understand, and very complete. Some of my friends used the Costanzo physio book, but this book is much more complete and has color photos and clinical cases at the end of each chapter. Besides, Costanzo is just a more complete version of BRS Physio and it doesn't really add anything. This physio book really helps explain some of the key concepts in detail and its the most complete reference book you can find. I don't see how you can survive your 2nd year of medical school without this book. And my Step 1 exam had a TON of physio questions, so I'm really glad I studied physio in detail.
Excellent book

I am a 2nd year PhD student in physiology, and throughout nearly all of my courses I found this book to be an excellent reference. Very clear and concise, with much more detail than most other basic physiology texts, which often gloss over important details. Very complete content, nice basic figures and helpful bibliographies. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying physiology as your "go-to book" for basic info in just about any specialization, whether you're a med student, grad student or undergrad. Furthermore, the price is [great]; at less than [$] it is [less costly] than most far-inferior textbooks in any scientific discipline.
Wonderful book

This book gives you exactly what it says it does. I believe it is specially made for the quick study of a given subject. If you come to this book expecting to find all answers you'll surelly be disapointed. As the title of the book says here you only find the "principles". For a thorough study you must get a physiology treaty either by the same authors or by Guyton, Ganong... In addition I think this book will be somehow difficult to understand if you are not a medical student because the authors write about a subject as if you already have some concepts on medical subjects as Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Histology, Biochemistry...
GOOD BOOK FOR MEDICINAL FIELD

I'm in first year in the university. Along with Guyton and Ganong, Berne & Levy is another thorough book suggested for physiology. I have been using it as my first focus throughout my first year study with supplementary references from Guyton and Ganong and I should say it really conveys alot of information. A great book for undergraduate study. The only shortage of the book is that it doesn't include hemostasis and blood physiology.... and well..... it's far more expensive compared to others. Nevertheless, a consice physio text book.
THE essential physiology text for the health-science student

Very well written and presented. Graphics are pertinent and provide a visual example of the concept presented. Very complete and thorough, yet not too overwhelming. Explanations are presented at a level appropriate for the graduate and undergraduate learner.
