Berkshire County's Army of Obstruction is a 136-page book that describes Continental Army and militia maneuvers in upstate New York between April and August 1777. It specifies the role of the Berkshire, Connecticut, and New York Militia in creating impediments that slowed the advance of the British army as it passed through Kingsbury, Fort Edward and Fort Ann in New York. The book emphasizes the personal conflicts faced by farmer militiamen, including my ancestor, Pvt. Eleazer Barrett, who divided his time between harvesting crops and duties in militia service. This book has a 94 alphabetical name index but includes an appendix of forty-two company rosters with over 1300 names.
