When someone is grieving finding the right words is difficult. We wonder what to say and how to say it. I have often asked myself how I approach and speak with someone grieving. A person going through a loss (of any kind -a pet, autonomy physical and mental, loss of a job or future perspective ) looks for comfort and hope from reading and hearing words of encouragement from their circle of family and friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. My encounters with those who are grieving have been educational and informative. I am reaching out to share my thoughts and suggestions. I did research from many sources for inspiration. We can support people in a variety of ways, activities, verbal, and nonverbal allowing them to be heard and validating their feelings. Grief has its language that should use words like compassion, sympathy, empathetic, and bereavement. And phrases like- I understand, and I also feel your loss. it should never be judgemental.
