Beni: The business of violent conflict

The population of Beni in the east of the DR Congo has been living, for some years now, an ordeal that does not say its name. The Congolese government and its many partners are trying, without success for the moment, to defeat an armed group of Ugandan origin, the ADF/MTM, an Islamist group with allegiance to Daesh. This region also includes other Congolese armed groups that constitute enclaves or states within a state. The large-scale operations launched in October 2 019 continue in parallel with the massacres. In one year, more than a thousand people have died, lives cut short for no reason. Why is the tragedy of Beni not on the agenda of the government and the international community when it involves serious crimes? The lack of attention calls for a mix that does not allow for the identification and punishment of the perpetrators who profit from this violence.
