Soon to be a major television event from Pascal Pictures, starring Tom Holland. Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, the USA Today and #1 Amazon Charts bestseller Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man's incredible courage and resilience during one of history's darkest hours. Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He's a normal Italian teenager--obsessed with music, food, and girls--but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior. In an attempt to protect him, Pino's parents force him to enlist as a German soldier--a move they think will keep him out of combat. But after Pino is injured, he is recruited at the tender age of eighteen to become the personal driver for Adolf Hitler's left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, one of the Third Reich's most mysterious and powerful commanders. Now, with the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share. Fans of All the Light We Cannot See , The Nightingale , and Unbroken will enjoy this riveting saga of history, suspense, and love.

When I first got the book, I thought to myself why did I get such a thick book as I am not a fully committed reader. When I started reading it, the first few pages were ok, then it started to get a hold of me. I could not lay it down. I felt if I would lay it down and walk away, I would fail the people that this book is about. It will hold you to the end, your heart will be aching along the way. Nessum dorma......
Really Good

Kept me thinking about it long after I finished. It is gruesome and hard to read in part because it depicts real war horrors but it's all just such an insightful and compelling book. Loved it!!

Beneath a Scarlet Sky is easily in the top 5 of books I've read! As someone who loves history and specifically WWII, I could not put the book down. The suspense and just wanting to know what happened next kept me glued to it. Such a great story of trying times, love, and triumph. There may be some historical inaccuracies but it did not stop me from loving the book. Would recommend the book.
wonderful account of German occupation in WWII Italy

This a very well-written account of the events and conditions for Italians living under severe conditions during WWII. The detailed accounts of the ways in which people, especially Jews, were rescued under harrowing, hazardous conditions are spell-binding. Once I started to read this book I could not put it down. Within accounts of political conditions are true stories of the complexities of love and hate relationships that become complicated with understandings and misunderstandings. Although I already knew a great deal about the German occupations in Europe, I still learned a lot that was important. This is an important book to read.
Great read

This was the first WWII book I read from the Italian side. Mr. Sullivan showed how the Italians were suffering under German rule. I would find myself reading until 4 in the morning. It is a great book.

Thank you for this book for without it we wouldn’t have the rich history of Pino, Carletto, Father Re, Anna, or Leyers, among the many others.
Mark Sullivan is the kind of author I admire and look up to when it comes to research and storytelling. As an author myself, I appreciate the attention and breadth he devoted to telling this story steeped in the most volatile time in our world’s history, as accurately as possible.
Excellently researched and written. I especially enjoyed how the author tied up the end with all the characters, who by the way, I had to remind myself are/were real people. I had to continuously remind myself that these events happened - Pino lived this!
Several times throughout the story I exclaimed what an amazing novel this was. We need stories like these to remind us that there are unsung heroes doing extraordinary things. Those who say their story isn’t worth telling are the ones who motivate me as an investigative writer, to want to know more, and encourage all people to tell their own stories so that we may learn from each other.
