Book Overview

With 100 full-color photographs, here is a simple explanation of Ben Hogan's secret to success and the foundations which support its successful execution. Includes stories from golfers speaking of their times with the legendary Hogan himself.

In 1954, Ben Hogan stated in the serialized lessons he wrote for Life magazine that he had "a secret." He challenged the world to find it by stating "It is easy to see if I tell you where to look." He then wrote his legendary instructional book, Five Lessons, and created a remarkable golf swing puzzle, but somehow one important piece of information was missing.

Golf expert after golf expert have attempted to define this secret over the years, serving to compile a rather lengthy list of what they think the secret is but never quite explaining how it's done. Enter Ben Hogan's Magical Device, a revealing book which intends to finally explain, in universally understandable terms, that long-lost secret to Hogan's swing. Chapters include:
The Context: Hogan's Fundamentals reviewed.Hogan's Magic Device: Try It PuttingThe Next Step: Chipping with the Magical DecideHogan's Secret Put into ActionThe Joy of Good TimingThe Magic Decide Applied to Special ShotsAnd much more
As a lifelong golfer with 50+ years of experience, two degrees in Physical Education and a Doctorate in History, author Ted Hunt became determined to track down Hogan's secret himself. He reviewed most of the literature concerning Hogan and interviewed many professionals (including Jack Nicklaus) and the result of his research produced a clearer understanding of the source of the confusion concerning Hogan's secret. An hypothesis was conceived and tested, and Hunt was pleased to discover that his analysis stood up to critical examination. But perhaps more importantly, his golf responded with more accuracy and lower scores, which included shooting his age (79) several times within weeks of embracing the secret.

Very interesting and instructional

I found this book both interesting to read and informational regarding Hogan's magical device. It helped my swing, set up and result, from putting, pitching and driving. I also learned quite a bit about Ben that I didn't previously know.

as close as it gets

I believe this gentleman has hit on 95% of the secret the other 5% was taken to the grave. I found the book to be informative clearing up some of the beliefs of Ben Doyle and Ike Handy and many others who conform to the teachings of the Golfing Machine written by Homer Kelley. The main point of hitting the ball with a concave right wrist(dorsal flexion) with the left wrist bowed into a convex position(palmar flexion) is what most high speed pioctures of PGA pros dipicts. The difficulty that arises is being able to do just that. Their are suggested drills in the book that will help create your ability to hit the ball as the author describes....A very good treatise on the Hogan secret and description of what elite golfers do at impact

Great Book

This is a terrific book. The author might not be a household name, but he clearly knows his stuff. His interpretation of Ben Hogan makes excellent golf sense, and the question whether he has discovered Hogan's secret or not is moot. What the book explains is extremely sound, fundamentally sound, and it definitely works. I tried out his advice and hit some of the best drives I can remember hitting--not necessarily longer drives, but high quality drives that went where I aimed with a beautiful trajectory. I strongly recommend this book for those who are interested in learning the fundamentals of golf. I believe this book delivers a great explanation for a totally sound way of hitting the golf ball, possibly the way Ben Hogan striped it. I believe the writer has hit the bullseye as far as figuring out Hogan's secret.

Magic it is

I have tons of golf books (pronate, supinate - bull), many videos (shift you weight - bull), I used to be a sucker for every golf gimmic (never helped), I have tried every training aid ever invented (waste of $$$), have a garage full of golf clubs, I've spent $$$$ on lessons = all to no avail. Along comes this book, for cheap, and I have reduced my handcap by 5 points in one month - I have never been so excited. Where I used to barely break 90 now I am in the mid 80's. If you read and digest this book and try what the author recommends you too will be amazed......where has this book been all my life

Wow

The title is about the only thing wrong with this book. Otherwise, wow. I used to shoot in the 80s, was down to 14 or so. Lost it in the last year, had no idea where the clubhead was going. After reading half of this and playing 18 today I'm well on my way back. Now I know where the ball is headed, I know how to trigger the downswing, and I'm 100% certain of a correct address position. I wish I had read this years ago.
