Due to persistent heat and drought, there is an increased risk of forest fires in the Barnim biosphere reserve. Ben and his colleague Carl regularly monitor a huge forest area and are in constant contact with the operations center.
In this difficult situation, Carl has to leave the fire station due to illness and the control center sends the android AFFA as a temporary replacement. Ben thinks this is a "damn stupid idea" and can't imagine "working with a robot." After a bumpy start, however, AFFA proves to be helpful and extremely inquisitive. Ben decides to give the android a chance until a real human replacement is found.
