Bellwether
In the elite, unforgiving world of professional dressage, champions are bred from flawless bloodlines, raised in pristine stables, and adorned with imported tack. They are not found abandoned in the dusty, forgotten stalls of rural auction houses. But Bellwether-a knobby-kneed, battered mount with a frayed mane and a scarred coat-possesses something aristocratic breeding can never replicate: a fiercely unbreakable heart.
Dismissed by the establishment as lazy and physically inadequate, Bellwether is purchased for a pittance by Arthur Hayward, a wealthy entrepreneur hollowed out by a devastating personal tragedy. To unlock the battered animal's hidden potential, Hayward assembles a stable of ghosts. He hires "Silent" Sam Miller, an enigmatic frontiersman with an almost mystical ability to commune with the traumatized souls of broken horses. To ride the intractable champion, they turn to Rusty Ballard, a half-blind, poetry-quoting outcast whose explosive anger and tragic history perfectly mirror the scarred horse he clings to.
Together, these three marginalized men and one discarded horse forge a fragile, profound bond built entirely on shared trauma. But to claim their salvation, they must enter the sacred arena and face the ultimate test. Waiting for them is Dreadnought, a Triple Crown-winning champion representing the pinnacle of aristocratic perfection, backed by an East Coast establishment determined to protect the purity of their sport at any cost.
As the nation watches and the unprecedented Pimlico Grand Prix looms, man and mount must learn to heal each other before they are broken for good. Discover the sweeping, triumphant story of the greatest underdog the sporting world has ever known. Grab your copy today and witness the ride of a lifetime.
