A confession written from the point of view of the fictitious Chester Rigby, which explains that his novel destroyed the life of the young and imaginative Tyson. Chester tells the story of how Tyson came to find his romantic novel that was written "only for money". But to the horror of Chester, Tyson falls in love with the main character Marie. Marie becomes just as real to Tyson as his pessimistic, pot smoking brother roommate, Trent or his na ve video game partner Jason. After defeating the other character, William, in a duel, and convincing his sister that Marie is real, Tyson finds himself regretting a set 'happily ever after' that Marie has wanted all her life. Tyson dreamed that life would be something more exciting instead of a wife, kids, and a normal career. He finally confesses this to his brother, who has also become disgusted with reality. Tyson makes a deal that Trent won't commit suicide if Tyson kills Marie. Tyson finds this a simple task to complete because he can simply stop reading, but he soon finds that he cannot get rid of the bella Marie.
