Great book. Covers a lot of good ground establishing the biblical, covenantal reasoning for baptizing children; and how the covenant works organically through natural generation. Hoeskema deals excellently with the topic of children who die in infancy.
Two reservations: Hoeskema rejects "common grace" (of a sort. I wonder if he would reject it if he properly understood it? ), and he rejects that Adam would have merited eternal life through the Covenant of Works.
Note from my pastor:
I'd most definitely recommend that you NOT read Hoeksema. He could be very good on lots of the Reformed system, but he was wrong on some foundational biblical and covenantal points, which led to corruption at numerous points. Moreover, that Protestant Reformed denomination which he founded is grossly sectarian. I'd recommend that you steer clear of all their teachers
