The novel is about a young girl getting lost while driving home from college on her Thanksgiving break in an horrific thunder storm. She made a wrong turn and drove two hours on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Finally she notices a light in the distance and drove towards it. She came upon an old log cabin, she rushed towards the door and knocked frantically. The door was opened and there stood an old lady with snow while hair and a wrinkled face who asked her to come in and get out of the rain. The rain had started to flood the roads which meant driving would be impossible to travel on. A tornado had passed through where she made the wrong turn and knocked down tress so the roads were impassable. There was no phone service in the remote area, this meant the young women had no chance of being rescued at any time soon
