The population as of the Canada 2006 Census was 18,927. It is part of the Regional County Municipality of La Vall e-du-Richelieu, within the Administrative Region of Mont r gie. It occupies the west shore of the Richelieu River in front of the Mont Saint-Hilaire. Along with the municipality of McMasterville to the immediate south of Beloeil, and the cities of Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Otterburn Park on the eastern bank of the Richelieu, Beloeil forms an unbroken urban agglomeration of over 40,000 inhabitants, which is part of Greater Montreal.
