Being became known in the world long after the world became known, but at about the same time that the world became known in being. They have since had an uneasy relation, with philosophers repeatedly trying to bridge the gap between them, or to find a gap, and the history of their thought has been a long ride, weaving in humanity's hopes and dreams, its cities and its wars. The struggles of thought have left us with objects that are held in common by people, reflections of the world, reflections of being. Objects are what we know.
