This upcoming handbook will outline all of the key elements for developing and implementing an effective agency-based program for assessing and treating youth with sexual behavior problems.P.R.O.T.E.C.T.(r) - Prevent Relapse Occurrence Team with Enhanced Case management and Treatment is a certified Juvenile Sexual Offender program in the state of Ohio. Built on twenty years of experience, P.R.O.T.E.C.T.(r) was designed to work with youth who exhibit sexual behavior problems and are staying in or returning to the community. Developed and refined over the past nine years, this evidence-based, multidisciplinary, best practice approach was built with an array of assessments, individual and family counseling, community psychiatric support treatment, and as warranted, psychiatric and psychological assessments. The program focuses on treatment guided by the identified individual and family risk and resiliency factors and uses a systems approach.P.R.O.T.E.C.T.(r) delivers integrated services while focusing on personal accountability, skill development, positive relationships and healthy sexuality to eliminate any reoccurrence of sexual behavior problems. This three-phased, highly structured, and efficient program uses psycho-education and safety planning and monitoring as well as trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy toaddress both risk factors and mental health concerns. Phase One: Education, Engagement, andEnergy Phase, focuses on rapport building, individualized treatment and safety planning, the use of motivational interviewing, and psycho-educational interventions. Phase Two: Nuts and Bolts and Future-look Phase, addresses behavior change through reframing, coaching, problem solving, role playing and practice, and therapy for the individual and the family. The Hopeful Goal is introduced to further motivate the change process and allow the youth to shift from the past of what they have done to the future of who they can be. Phase Three: What have you learned?(Stability and Transition phase), focuses on maintaining new behaviors gained through knowledge, skills, and supervision through reinforcement by family and community supports. At this point, the youth and family are transformed by the change process and are able to not only envision new possibilities, but act on them as well. They have co- created hope and a new future bymaking new meaning of crises and viewing them as achievable challenges and goals.
