I came across this book while looking for information about caring for my mother who has been having severe health problems the last few months. She has had several overnight stays in the hospital and I felt like things were out of control every time I was there. If you've already been through a lot in dealing with a difficult medical situation then maybe you'll be like one of the other reviewers and not feel you get a lot out of the book. For me it was just the opposite. I'm confident that the next time I go to the hospital for my mom (or anyone else for that matter) I'm going to understand better what is going on and also know how to make sure she gets the care I think she deserves. There are so many things in the book that I never thought about and maybe that makes me naive, but I've got a feeling there are a lot of people out there like me.
I needed this book years ago!

I bought three copies of this book when it first came out. My mother has been caregiving to my Step-father for nearly a decade. When she read it she called me and said, "I needed this book years ago." Sometimes it's tough to get the proper care for people who have long-term illnesses. This book shows you how to get the doctors, nurses, and staff to see you as a human being again. It gets to the point and illustrates how you can work within the system to get the care you or a loved one needs. I bought one for our university library and one for my private collection.
