I am really glad I got this book. It is the best source by far for information on Beijing for those who plan to live there or visit for an extended period of time. It will be especially helpful for those who are going to Beijing on business, with information on Internet connections, cell phone companies, banks, housing availability, health care and schools. It puts the chapter or so that most guidebooks devote to Beijing to shame. This is a must-have for expatriates in Beijing!

I was asked to prepare a complete overview for our project manager who was opening a new branch office in Beijing. None of us had any idea of what to expect. When looking for books to help with the research I was overwhelmed by the amount of research available and yet none of it gave me the modern view of the orient that we needed for the success of our business. Beleive it or not I found a copy of the Beijing Guidebook at my girlfriends and I found that I couldn't sleep that night I was so excited by what the book offered. All business insights, travel, customs and modern insight into the lifestyles and morays that make a business venture have a chance for success. My only regret is that the publishers of this marvelous book don't have an edition for everywhere in the world. By the way I got a raise for the report I prepared for management. Thanks again Beijing Guidebook. You saved my job!!

For business travellers such as myself who frequently visit Beijing, this book is an indispensible tool. Far beyond a mere travel or tourist guide, The Beijing Guidebook is packed with useful advice and tips of all kinds, including information on how to get started doing business, how to find housing and more. It's perfect for those who are moving to Beijing. In fact it is an absolute must because it gives you important information on relocation, family life in Beijing and more. My American and European friends who live in Beijing all have copies, love the book, and use it practically every day. The guide is also filled with information on how to have fun in Beijing and really enjoy what Beijing has to offer. The Arts & Culture chapters and Pubs & Nightlife were two of my fvorites. The chapter on restaurants covers all the various cuisines available in Beijing, both Chinese and international. The format of the book itself is also very entertaining and informative. Every page has something visually interesting, be it a great photo, funny cartoon about life in Beijing or an informative and useful chart or graph. There are plenty of clear and accurate maps also. There are also some ads in the book, but they fit right in because they add to one's understanding of who is there doing business now and what the feel of Beijing is these days, and it is very much a business oriented environment. The guide gives you a lively history of the place and then quickly ushers you into today's Beijing. Every time I come back to Beijing, many things have changed, so I was amazed at how accurate and up to date the book is. I highly recommend the book to anyone with an interest in Beijing. It is the most comprehensive overall source available. Worth every penny. It will save you having to figure things out for yourself when you get to Beijing, which can be a very confusing city. Just fabulous! If you know someone who is moving there or goes there often, give them a copy. I guarantee they will thank you for it and make much use of it.
