FINALLY: A Real Life Story Told Honestly

Every chapter was expressed with brilliance and honestly. The combination of this book could only be told by an eye witness who documented the events of there own life accounts. I haven't read such believable literature since the Griots finally were able to transcribe past occurrences. I truly love this book because it reminds me of my own dysfunctional family. If more African American writers would not be afraid to document true details of the pain afflicted in there lives, just maybe we as a people would finally be able to heal.

DJUANA BROWN, MEDIATOR - LOS ANGELES

Generously sharing her childhood experiences of abuse, Potter makes the subject matter of returning veterans of war and lack of mental assistance easier to understand. Her humorous and intuitive thinking as a child makes this book an easy read. The anecdotes, stories and examples are worth their weight in gold. This book is rich with insights not only of a young child but from a parent as well. Fortunately, Potter is here to share her story. I look forward to her next book!

Tyra Brisco, Actress/Comedian

This story is brilliantly written. Though there are many sad events in this book, the author skillfully relieves us from time to time with the "laughter that is medicine for the soul"! Thank God she didn't lose her sense of humor when relating such a story. This writer leaves me on edge wanting more, i read it in one day. I look forward to Ms. Potters future writings, hopefully we can see this on the big screen! It is the BOMB!

Definite Movie Potential!!!

I think that this book is definitely bound for the big screen, not only because I think it's a wonderful book, but because the issues that this book covers can, and will let you into the life of a soldier, like many, who came home, but was forever lost. All of the trials and tribulations that the family in this book went through are every day situations of thousands of families across the globe, and I think that it sends a great message that even though one might crush your spirits, if you just hold tight to your faith, they can never crush your soul.

Courageous Effort

"Behind the Pulpit" delivers a revealing look at the hopes, dreams and fears of a young child growing up in the turmoil-filled household of a Vietnam War veteran. It's also the compelling story of a beleaguered mother whose fortitude and unshakable faith helped her and her six kids to survive. Even though there's a lot of pain and anguish here, Potter does a nice job of using several humorous family anecdotes to offset some of the tense and frightening moments in this book. A huge portion of the author's childhood is memorable for all the wrong reasons. Yet, through it all, she managed to overcome her difficult past. Potter's message to others is that they can do the same.
