Excellent Edson

Even when he's average, Edson is a better Western writer than most, and with Texas Killers he's in fine form. Texas Killers is the American title for what British readers know as Floating Outfit titles Beguinage and it's direct sequel Beguinage is dead! The story is well paced and has a good couple of red herrings that throws you off discovering who Beguinage is. Some of Edson's later books can be rather long-winded in prose (e.g., Buffalo Are Coming!) but the earlier titles like this one are straightforwardly read, enjoyable stories that are nevertheless intelligently plotted and realistically written.
