Good book

"Beginner's Guide to SolidWorks 2006" is a good book. I already had a background in 2D drawing in both AutoCad and MicroStation. I purchased this book because SolidWorks is a different animal than the other two CAD packages and I didn't feel that I was getting the hang of 3D drawing on my own. In his book, Mr. Reyes takes the reader step by step through the process of "building" the Gear Box Assembly pictured on the cover of the book. By building this item one can learn most of the basic tools and processes needed to create other objects. I use SolidWorks at home to build my woodworking projects ahead of time on the computer and this book gave me the skills to accomplish that task. If there is one area I would criticize, it is that once a skill is covered in the book, the author assumes that the reader now knows how to do that task. In succeeding lessons, some of the previously learned tasks are expected of the reader and aren't always referenced as such. When I set the book down and then come back to it in a day or so, I didn't always remember where the previous skills were learned and had to thumb through the book to find them. This was a minor inconvenience and wasn't true of all skills. Some were referenced. Overall, I would highly suggest this book to someone who is struggling to learn SolidWorks.

The ONLY book to buy for new Solidwork users!

I bought a half dozen books to learn Solidworks 2006 and make the move away from Autocad. This book will have you working with Solidworks before you reach page 10. Most other books spend the first couple of chapters discussing theories versus actually teaching a new user how to work with Solidworks. BORING! Rather than blabbing about theories that typically will just confuse a newcomer, Alejandro dives right into fabricating parts with the RIGHT approach to ensure future part changes/modifications will be a breeze. I was so impressed with the book that I actually called his company to say "GREAT JOB" and Alejandro took time out of his busy schedule to talk to me! Thanks! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK!
