Before You Start A Ministry: Things to Know So You Can Flourish

If you desire to start a ministry, you are an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are remarkable people and a gift to the body of Christ and the world. Some people believe that kingdom entrepreneurs have the gift of apostleship to start churches, ministries, and businesses that transform people's lives and bring glory to God. Entrepreneurs, like everyone else, can look at the world and see brokenness and chaos. What sets them apart is that they also see opportunities and solutions that will transform those things and bring beauty out of those ashes. People like the late Apple founder Steve Jobs are loved because they can envision and create things that change our world and the way we live. Think of John Guttenberg's invention of the printing press, Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb, The Wright brother's invention of the airplane, and Kahn and Cerf's invention of the internet protocols that make our internet possible today. Can we even imagine our world today without the vision and passion of these entrepreneurs? In the charity arena, we celebrate people like Mother Teresa for the same reasons. These individuals used their God-given talents and passions to shape our world for good.I am a social entrepreneur as well. I started my first nonprofit in 2005 and since then God has used it to transform the lives of thousands of orphans in Cameroon and hundreds of partners, volunteers, and interns from around the world. Since that time, I grown a lot, earned two doctorate degrees, been a co-founder of Servants University, the first university in the world to offer university-level training to those going into orphan care, poverty alleviation (in general), pastoring, missions, and so forth. In the process, I have taught and mentored many people who feel called into ministry and who want to start new nonprofit organizations.The purpose of this book is to give advice to those who are thinking of starting a ministry. I desire to help prepare them to flourish as they work with God in the areas he has called them, submit to him, and see him do his work through them.
