This non-fiction book is the English translation of the 2009 book titled, 할머니 의사 청진기를 놓다, Grandmother Doctor Put a StethoscopeDown, originally published in Korea. Dr. Cho was a prominent pediatrician who worked at the Seoul Children's Baby Hospital (CBH). During the post-Korean War period in the 1960's, the babies and children who entered Seoul CBH were parent-less. At this time, the economy was poor and there were many families who could not afford to take care of an infant or a child with disabilities. This book contains stories and experiences of Dr. Cho's tenure at CBH. Some of the children were able to be adopted to various countries throughout the World and some were with special needs who never got adopted but continued to live their lives under the care of the Holt Ilsan Town in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. As in any war, not everyone survives, but Dr. Cho did everything she could to help and try and make a child's life during very troubled times.
