Life or death depends on the next message... When Dr. Richard Avery's (Ed Quinn) son Sam is kidnapped while the two are attending a convention in India, Avery faces a 24-hour nightmare filled with drugs and the dangerous underworld of a strange and foreign country. In a search to save his son's life, Avery is left with a beeper providing the only clue to Sam and his kidnapper's whereabouts. Distraught and desperate, Avery seeks out a variety of intriguing characters including drug kingpin Zolo (Harvey Keitel) who, for his own reasons, teams up with the doctor and a glamorous femme fatale named Julia (Joey Lauren Adams) to help bring Sam home.
