Bedford Forrest Rides Again

When the good folks of the South meet Nathan Bedford Forrest the Sixth and his wife Nelda, little do they suspect that a mere few years earlier, the duo had murdered their parents, been wed at their gravesite, and decamped Ole Miss to roam the South in their Winnebago, preying upon gullible runaways. This is a manhunt story with a twist. In 1984, Travis Lafayette Boudin, the local sheriff in Crosstown, rural east Texas, investigates the murder of a teenage boy found half buried at the bank of the nearby Navasota River. The cause of the boy's death is a mystery that deepens when Boudin's search leads to the discovery of more bodies of unidentified boys around the South with disturbing signs like that of the anonymous 'River Boy" - a pit in the vertebrae, possibly made by a Civil War era bayonet. Boudin reluctantly forms an uneasy alliance with Bobbie Hicks, a young woman recently arrived in Crosstown searching for her missing father and younger brother. Bobbie fears the dead teenage boy might be her missing brother. A link between the boy's death and the deaths of other unidentified runaways across the South reveals a disturbing pattern of connections to Civil War battle reenactments. They encounter the region's demons: race, hate and perversions during their search.
