Life during the Great Depression of the 1930s was difficult for most people who lived in the farming community in which I grew up. However, there were many commendable things that surfaced during that era. The people who lived in our community were resilient, determined to make the best of the times, and were willing to help their neighbors in need. It was a simpler time when people were not upwardly mobile and life was about more than the endless pursuit of the next new thing. Those who lived through the hard times of the Great Depression acquired a perspective on life, possessions, and saving that has been lost to this present generation.
