If they offer this class at your college, take it! If not, the book should still be a big help. I had been out of school for 20 years so my study skills were rusty. I ended up graduating with honors. I couldn't have done it, if not for this book and class. Of course, my book was an earlier edition, but I have to believe it would only improve. I almost think it should be required reading for all freshman in their first semester of college.

This book helped me go from a 1.89 gpa to a 3.7 in college. The techniques are easy to follow and really work.
Masterful help for a distraught master's student!

I am a master's student, nearing the end of my degree but having a heck of time finishing. This book has been invaluable in helping me clarify my educational goals, prioritize tasks, and use my time effectively. It is gender balanced and takes a holistic look at what it takes to be an effective student (including physical and mental health, finances, relationships). It does take some effort to work through, but I think the book does an excellent job of clarifying that not all of the suggestions are for everyone (i.e., planning out every 15 mintues didn't work for me, but using hour-long blocks with tangible goals does!). Highly, highly recommended for students who have the motivation to improve but don't know where to begin. I wish I'd had this book as an undergrad!
Best study skills book for H.S. students I've seen!

I have used this text for the past 4 years in grades 9-12 as a primary text for a study skills course for students with moderate learning disabilites and have met much success with it. It is varied, easy-to-read, concree and has tons of suggestions. It also provides a journal component whereby students can document previous patterns/perceptions and present attitudes and integrate suggested study tips within their study habits. We haven't finished all the chapters, but we have covered most of them.
