Because I Can Do That: A Teen's Perspective tells of my experiences as a counselor at a group home for troubled youths: the horror stories that ensued, dreadful pain of neglect, and the teens', "because I can do that," coping mechanism, was something that I do not miss. While working with these teens, I deduced that every situation that we may feel that is hopeless and beyond reviving is not necessarily a dead situation. It depends on how you look at it and approach it. Yes, it may appear limp and lifeless but that does not deem it as dead. You have to breathe life into that dead situation then take what you need from it and do to it what you will. Always remember that there is hope, hope sometimes looms in the backdrop but it is always present, sometimes you have to search for it in the darkest of places.
