The beavers were busy and happy munching on bark, raising their babies, and maintaining the little Dam in the Creek, which bears their name and flows behind the school. What they didn't know but would soon discover was that men were about to lay a natural gas pipeline across the Creek, right through their dam. The pipeliners brought a backhoe, tore up the dam, and plopped it on the bank of the Creek. When the men returned, the beavers had put the Dam back in the Creek. The men did this three times, each time moving the logs farther from the water. After the third time the rain came, the Creek rose eight feet, and flooded the backhoe. The men eventually got their pipeline and the beavers built a new dam just downstream.
