Nevada's rugged, majestic beauty is a balm for the aches of Hope Gardener's heart. But the ranch she loves is dying of thirst, thanks to the worst drought the area has ever seen, Hope needs a miracle -- and one day it comes to the Valley of the Sun. A man out of time, Rio is an anachronism in the modern-day West, bringing with him a reputation for finding water in any desert. Hope has no choice but to trust this dark stranger who claims to make dreams real. And Rio, who has never had a dream of his own to follow, has found something in this extraordinary lady whose passion tempts him to defy his own rules. In the midst of adversity, two free spirits must now explore the most closely guarded corners of their hearts...as they search for a beautiful dream big enough to hold them both.
What better way to spend an enjoyable afternoon than with a reread of "Valley of the Sun" or a first time read of "Beautiful Dreamer", by Elizabeth Lowell! Rio is a mysterious, intelligent, gorgeous guy, if somewhat dubius of his potential, who thinks he is unable to have any life other than a wanderer. Hope (don't you love this name?) knows only that she wants to preserve her ranch at all costs. Allows herself to dream of a future even though she has fallen in love with a man who thinks he cannot dream. Glorious, colorful, western background surrounding an unforgettable romantic struggle.
This is an oldie but a goodie.

Hold Fast To Dreams
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 27 years ago
Hope Gardener dreamed of the day when her ranch in the Valley Of The Sun would be brought to life by a reliable well. It seemed like a foolish dream, until she met Rio. Rio was a man without dreams. He moved like the wind over the face of the land, learning its secrets, seeing everything, even the water hidden deep beneath the earth. He agreed to find a well for her. Hope began to dream of a time when Rio would live with her and love her as she had come to love him. But how long can you hold on to a dream? (Back Cover) Silhoutte Intimate Moments #109I just loved this book. I read it about 10 years ago. Lost it and spent 5 years looking for a copy. Sorry, I'm not lending it out again. I've read a few of Lowell's more recent books and I still believe that this is one of her best. Rio and Hope are two characters you'll always remember and I find myself re-reading this book everytime I feel down. I hope they'll think about re-releasing it. Don't bother to expand on it, you can't improve on a good book.
