Developing Christian Conduct that Reflects the Radiance of Christ

Chris Schimel, director of Touch One Ministries, addresses the subject of Christian conduct in his new book "Beautiful Behaviors." From the very first chapter he challenges the reader to examine their personal religious traditions and self imposed restrictions practiced as a result of a limited understanding of the liberating freedom that comes with following Christ. Chris uses illustrations and applications taken from stories real life and his personal ministry which demonstrate God's generous gift of grace and unmerited favor. These are examples of meeting people where they are and allowing God's Spirit to do the work of transforming them into followers of Christ's life. Solidly based on scriptural foundational truths Schimel's writing resonates with the message that if the Christian models Christ's character, love and forgiveness, the Holy Spirit will complete the work of repentance, restitution, and regeneration. The chapters dealing with restoration, resolution through forgiveness, and being constrained by love, gave me tremendous insights into transforming Christian conduct into beautiful behaviors. I also appreciated those chapters describing the innocence of children, the power of a "high five," as well as the unique diversity of spiritual gifts, those God given abilities that give purpose to each individual within the church body. I sometimes felt Chris was on the edge of being radical in his approach and then was quite pleased to realize that my home church is acknowledging and practicing some of these very same principles. "Beautiful Behaviors" is a book for every Christian who wants to learn to practice behavior that is a glorious reflection of the radiance of the Lord Jesus. These practical, instructional, and inspirational, guidelines can be adapted to bring freedom, forgiveness, and fulfillment to all involved in creating Christian community.
